Got the Winter Blues?

As I sit here trying to keep warm on a 10C day in Naracoorte, South Australia, it got me thinking about those pesky winter blues. Although it's not officially winter yet I'm sure they are starting to creep in for some of us!
 
At this time of year it’s normal to feel a little blue. The drop in temperature, grey skies and health issues that appear in winter can easily bring us down. Commonly known as the winter blues, the technical term is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and is a type of depression that impacts millions of people each year.  It generally kicks in as the hours of daylight get shorter and can last till early spring. Apparently, anywhere from 60-90% of people with SAD are women. The men certainly aren’t immune but us ladies seem to struggle with it more.

That’s where the healing energy of Reiki can help. Reiki helps melt away tension and pain, whether it’s stress-induced or health related. And if you’re struggling through the heavy dullness of the midwinter blues, caring support, healing touch and a brighter, lighter heart can make it that much easier to cope with.

The gentle, balancing energy of Reiki helps improve mood and relieve anxiety, offering calm support to help you move through daily life with more ease and clarity.
One of my favourite things about winter is having a warm toasty wood fire to keep the house warm; the connection to warmth and fire and transformation that it brings is a wonderful mid-winter assistant. Fire is purging and cleansing and warming and enlivening.
This time of year is a good time to reflect on the importance of finding a balance between quiet 'me time' activities, such as meditation, healing, journalling and nature time, with ‘we time’ activities like socialising and connecting with like minded individuals.
